Rachel Brennecke received her BFA from the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2007. Raised by generations of artists, Rachel began immersing herself in fashion and art in New York and Europe at the age of fourteen. She has since mentored under artists Peter Beard, Marina Abramovic, and Gilles Bensimon; performed at The Museum of Modern Art for Marina Abramovic, Deitch Projects for Vanessa Beecroft, and Performa 09 in Mother Earth Sister Moon.
Her first photo book Americana Girl was released at Printed Matter's PS1 Art Book Fair in September 2016. Americana Girl was selected for ‘Favorite Titles from the NY Art Book Fair’ by American Photo, an interview with i-D magazine, and printed in AI/AP's 2017 hardcover juried annual book, American Photography 33. Her work has been published in Cosmopolitan, Elle, Violet Book, Ladygunn, Galore, Vice, and on Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, i-D, Out Magazine, Marie Claire, NY Magazine and The Cut.com. Her photographs have been published as the monograph Worn In New York by Emily Spivak, and she appears in Mark Seliger’s LISTEN.
For the past two years Rachel served as the Artistic Director for Hudson Valley based art collective, The Goddess Party - a 40-person all female art choir backed by a 6-piece female rock band. As the creative responsible for the look and feel of each show, from costuming and choreography, to staging, lighting, photography, online and printed media, and performing herself, The Goddess Party sold out their first four shows at Opus 40, and Basilica Hudson, and was recently featured in Bust Magazine’s ‘The Hotness’ as an event not to be missed.
Rachel donates her work to causes she believes in, raising funding for social justice nonprofits, and volunteers her spare hours working with, rescuing, and raising funding for animals and the environment.
